News Flash: Copley Community Garden is happening now!

A fresh and exciting development is happening now in outback Flinders Ranges.

The small town of Copley, population of one hundred on a good day, is going for food self sufficiency via a new community gardens on spare land adjacent the town. 

Passionate gardener and community minded local, Ron Johnson, is the driver of the project and local contractors and residents are following close on his heels.

After just six months an old stable building forms the hub and a nursery and protected garden bed area has been added to the site.

Before too long a quandong tree orchard will appear.

Check out the Copley Botanical gardens adjacent the amenities block in Copley, take a break and boil the billy, there is a lot to see and do in Copley!

It’s now a hive of activity and fresh greens are available and a range of native and exotic trees are being propagated helping to secure a healthy and vibrant  food future for this arid land outback town, blessed with good quality town water sourced from the extensive aquifer system under the land, now managed by SA Water.

A Mens Shed ( if that term is allowed ) is planned for to be built on the site and the white board list is expanding and includes milking goats, who needs a stupid market when the town has its own organic food supply and native tree nursery.

Seedlings will go on sale at the Copley Community Market and visitors are encouraged to drop by and have a yarn with the locals.

The famous Quandong Cafe is a stones throw from the garden, and Cookes Outback Motors across the road if your car needs attention.
